All of the buildings in this photo were razed during the Sturgeon fire of 1943. The first clearly visible brick building to the left is the original Sturgeon Hotel.
This is a 'birds-eye' view of Sturgeon. You can see present day Noblestown Road, The railroad tracks, and how open the land was before present day development.
This is the Sunny Beach swimming pool that was located near the champion school. The pool was build in 1925 by Bill Miller of Sturgeon. The pool was dug out with a scoop and a team of horses.
This is the Champion School. It was built around 1916, and this photo was taken right after it was built, but he building no longer stands.
This is the Franco Belgium Club which still stands today. The building was built facing the railroad (which is now facing the Pan Handle Trail and the SVFD rear access roadway). Historically, the hall was used for dances, medicine shows and school plays.
From Left to Right, these three buildings were the Gaston Rank general store (now known as Hunner's Deli), The Celine Romain Store and the next was owned by Celine. All three buildings still stand today.

This is the August Carly building. At one time, it had a soda fountain and a pool room in it.
This is the street car that went from Oakdale to McDonald. The Building on the left was Goldsmith's Store wich later burned down. That is where the Sturgeon AA club is today.
these were the tracks that came off the Pennsylvania R.R. and went into the Champion Mine.
This is the trestle that went across the main road in sturgeon. The empty cars were on their way to the Champion Mine.
It's hard to see, but this photo shows the Voye Hotel. If you look close, you can see a windmill behind it that was used to pump their water.

This was John LaPlanche and his horse Dolly. His wife delivered milk on Champion Hill and he delivered milk in Sturgeon.
This Photo shows a truely unique building in Sturgeon History. This building was not only the Sturgeon Post office, but also served as the company owned store for the Champion mines. Workers from the mine would recieve credit for their labor that they could use toward purchases from the store.
This is the Sturgeon Baseball Field, behind it is present dy Noblestown Road and to the right of it was the Eagles Club, which is now an apartment building at 7621 Noblestown Road.

This photo shows the intersection of cemetary hill road and the railway that passed through Sturgeon. The railway has since been decommissioned and is now the Panhandle Trail.
This photo captures the Sturgeon School that resided on the property that is now the Sturgeon Park. It is being torn down in this photo from the 1970's after it was razed in a fire.
